5 Tips for Packing Efficiently

  1. Use the Perfect-Sized Luggage For Your Needs
    • Want to bring only a carry-on? Buy yourself a carryon that is small enough to fit within the airline’s size requirements but also big enough for you to comfortably bring everything you’d want.
    • Don’t want to bring anything with wheels? Bring a backpack as a carryon that will be comfortable & can hold the amount of weight you will need/want to carry throughout the entire trip.
    • Checking a bag? Try to find a lightweight bag that is is still sturdy, so that you can bring everything you want to bring without going over weight. You also don’t want anything too big that would be difficult to maneuver in foreign countries (on boats, small planes, rental cars, buses, etc.).
  2. Pack Each Item Efficiently Based On Size/Shape/Use:
    • Use a combination of packing cubes, rolling & folding to maximize your space!
      • Packing Cubes: use for easy outfit grabbing, smaller items, toiletries and general organization of the suitcase.
      • Folding: use for bigger items like sweaters to save space and jeans or shirts that you don’t want to get wrinkled.
      • Rolling: use for the rest of your items, as this will utilize all areas of the suitcase and helps you see what each item is when you open it.
  3. Pack Items Inside of Filler Places
    • Stuff your shoes/boots, reusable water bottle, hats and bra cups with small, thin items like socks, underwear, neck ties & swim suits.
    • Add extra, miscellaneous items to your carry on bags (purse, laptop bag, camera bag). Don’t leave empty space if you have lots to pack!
  4. Use Travel-Sized Containers
    • Shampoo & Conditioner: Only fill & bring what you will need for the duration of the trip, if you even want to bring these (most hotels will provide shampoo at least, and sometimes conditioner).
    • Favorite Lotions, Cleansers, Hair Products: Bring along any liquids that you would want your own of while traveling in a small travel size that can be thrown away at the end of your trip, rather than lugging around your favorites in their full size containers.
    • Laundry Detergent: This allows you to be able to hand wash clothes on vacation in a hotel sink or bath! Life-saver for trips where I have ran out of clean socks, shirts, underwear, bras or shirts.
  5. Throw In Some Ziploc Bags and Plastic Bags
    • I always put some of each type of plastic bag in my suitcase because you never know when you might need them!
      • Plastic shopping bags are great for putting wet clothes in if you have a swimsuit that is still drying but need to head to your next hotel. They also make great trash bags for your rental car or while you are traveling by boat/bus/train.
      • Ziploc bags come in handy if you need to store any receipts, medicine, food/snacks, jewelry at ay time during your vacation.

Happy Traveling! 🧳
